Emory & Henry’s Kevin Saxton Receives NCAA Division III Student Immersion Grant

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Emory & Henry College junior Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.) will be attending the 2017 NCAA Convention as one of 40 students in the NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program. The program, which was created in 2015 on the recommendation of the Division III Diversity and Inclusion Working Group, fully-funds students to attend the NCAA Convention, exposing them to the Division III membership and governance process.

"The fact that I was selected between so many other candidates out there is truly a blessing from God. There are no words that can truly explain the feeling I have towards this opportunity," Saxton commented.

The program will run the full length of the 2017 NCAA Convention from Wednesday, January 18 to Saturday, January 21 in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

Saxton, a three-year starting quarterback for the E&H football team and 2014 ODAC Rookie of the Year, added, "This opportunity is huge for me. It is a way for me to express the many ideas I have, and make the much needed connections out in the work force after I am done playing football."

For a second year, Division III is supporting 40 ethnic minority students to attend the NCAA Convention through the Program. The NCAA encourages institutions to nominate qualified ethnic minority students, preferably juniors or seniors, with a strong interest in a career in Division III athletics. In addition to the scheduled Division III programming, grant recipients will attend welcome and debrief meetings.  The goal is to build a pipeline which will diversify the administrative landscape in Division III.
