EMORY, Va. - The largest single fundraising event for the Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics general fund, the I-HEY Golf Tournament, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The I-HEY Golf Tournament at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon had been scheduled for Friday, August 21.

"Over the past few weeks, we have had extensive meetings with key campus stakeholders. We've determined that, after weighing all options, it was best to press pause and focus on bringing our student-athletes back to campus safely," said Anne Crutchfield, director of athletics.

The annual fundraising event is held in appreciation of the loyal contributors to the I-HEY fund and to support the operational needs of the department of athletics. Emory & Henry previously announced that the 2020 I-HEY Golf Tournament would move from the original date of Friday, May 8 to Friday, August 21, due to the coronavirus outbreak before finally choosing to cancel the event.

Participants and sponsors that have already paid will be contacted with options for a refund, roll-over to the 2021 tournament, or to donate their funds to the general fund. The 2021 I-HEY Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 7, 2021.

"This decision is a necessary reality, but it leaves us with a sizeable financial hole to fill in our I-HEY Fund that supports the operational needs of the department of athletics," added Crutchfield. "Now more than ever, we're so grateful for the Emory & Henry community that has financially supported, volunteered, celebrated, and cheered for E&H Athletics through the years."
