Emory & Henry Baseball Sees Five Earn All-ODAC Honors

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball is well represented with five selections on the 2012 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Teams. The all-conference teams were released Saturday afternoon by the ODAC office and are selected by the league's 10 head coaches.

Senior second baseman Josh McMillian (Amelia, Va.) and senior outfielder Remington Hedgepeth (Winston-Salem, N.C.) garnered first team accolades while senior catcher Collin Metz (Cape Coral, Fla.) and senior first baseman Logan Ball (Honaker, Va.) were named to the second and third teams, respectively. Seventh-year Head Coach Trey McCall was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.

McMillian led E&H on the year with a .368 batting average, 63 hits, 38 RBI, five home runs and a .567 slugging percentage. He posted a .955 fielding percentage from his post at second base, among the highest on the team. McMillian had a 25-game hitting streak during the season and tallied 21 multi-hit games.

Hedgepeth recorded a .336 batting average over the course of the year as he split time between left and right field. He led the team with 18 doubles and was second in RBI (36) and home runs (four).  Hedgepeth also recorded 49 hits and 25 runs on the season.

Metz was second on the squad batting, with a .364 average as he had 15 doubles and four home runs, giving him a .543 slugging mark. He had a 12-game hitting streak and 16 multi-hit games. Metz caught 324 of 325 innings played by Emory & Henry, showing poise, athleticism and consistency behind the plate.

Ball split time early between the designated hitter spot and first base, but became the everyday first baseman for E&H midway through the season. He batted .325 with six doubles, three triples and four home runs, leading the Wasps in three-baggers. Ball had 39 hits, 29 runs and 26 RBI on the year with a .949 fielding percentage.

McCall led the Wasps to an ODAC tournament berth for the first time since 1999 as E&H earned the third seed with an 11-7 conference record. The third seed equals the highest league finish and tournament position all-time for the Wasps, having also occupied the spot in 1977. Emory & Henry's 11 league victories set a new program standard (10 in 1998), and the squad's 15 overall wins ties the school record (1977, 1993, 1999).

McCall is the first E&H mentor to be named coach of the year since Beverly Hatch earned the honor in 2005 for women's tennis. It is only the third time a Wasp baseball coach has been selected as best in the league by his mentors (Fred Selfe 1977, Dewey Lusk 1998).
