Roanoke Baseball Defeats Emory & Henry, 7-2, Wednesday Evening In ODAC Action

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Baseball Team (6-10, 2-3 ODAC) earned a 7-2 victory over Emory & Henry College (6-10, 1-4 ODAC) Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Maroons got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning thanks in part to a two-run single by Brian Kluge. E&H made the score 3-1 in the top of the third as senior second baseman Sam Line (Inman, S.C.) plated senior right fielder Mark Robertson (Roanoke, Va.).

Roanoke added three more runs in the third, two of which scored when Aaron Burton reached on an error by the shortstop. The Maroons extended their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth.

Emory & Henry got its second run of the contest in the top of the fifth as junior catcher Connor Wise (Cookeville, Tenn.) doubled to drive in senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.), who led off the inning on an error by the shortstop.

Maroon pitcher Mark Wimmer picked up the win as he scattered two runs and four hits over six innings of work, striking out five. Cam Cassady went two-for-four at the plate while Burton finished the game with two RBI and a run scored.

E&H freshman Ty Hill (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the loss as he allowed seven runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings. He also struck out four in his ODAC debut.

Emory & Henry will next host SUNY Oswego on Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
