EMORY, Va. - The SUNY Oswego Baseball Team (3-1) picked up a 16-8 victory over Emory & Henry College (6-11) Friday afternoon at Porterfield/DeVault Field. The Lakers got 10 runs in the first three innings en route to the win.
Oswego State led the game off with five runs in the top of the first behind a two-run shot by Scott Buniak. E&H closed the gap to 5-3 in the bottom half of the frame as junior catcher Connor Wise (Cookeville, Tenn.) hit a three-run homer to left centerfield.
After scoring a run in the second, the Lakers plated four in the top of the third stanza thanks to a pair of two-run home runs by Jordan Giller and Mike McMullen to make the score 10-1.
The Wasps plated two in the fourth and got three more in the bottom of the fifth. With two outs and a runner on, senior designated hitter Jessup Lambert (Fries, Va.) earned his first collegiate hit. Lambert hit a towering home run to left field to make the score 11-7 and E&H got its third run of the frame on a single by senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.), closing the gap to 11-8.
Over the next three innings, Oswego State tallied five runs for the final 16-8 margin. McMullen had a two-run double in the sixth while Tim Curry singled through the left side to plate a pair in the eighth.
The Lakers' Thor Miller picked up the win as he scattered seven hits and five runs over four innings of work. Stark finished three-for-five at the plate with a trio of RBI while McMullen was two-for four with four runs driven in. Buniak went three-for-five with three runs and two RBI while Giller was two-for-four with three runs scored a two driven in.
Emory & Henry sophomore Bryson Hodges (Cumming, Ga.) suffered the loss as he allowed five runs in the first inning. Freshman Adam Warnalis (Bedford, Va.) pitched four solid innings in relief, striking out three.
At the plate, the Wasps were led by sophomore third baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) as he went three-for-four while Wise was two-for-five with three RBI and two runs. Junior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and freshman left fielder Ben Barnett (Knoxville, Tenn.) each had a pair of hits on the day.
Emory & Henry will travel to Bridgewater College on Sunday for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference doubleheader with the Eagles. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
