Emory & Henry Baseball Rallies To Defeat Ferrum, 5-4, Wednesday At Calfee Park

PULASKI, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (9-25) scored three unanswered runs en route to defeating Ferrum College (12-22) by a 5-4 score at Calfee Park Wednesday evening. The Wasps snapped an 11-game losing streak with the victory.

Ferrum got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first as they pounded out five hits. Ted Turner highlighted the frame with a two-run double.

E&H closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the second as senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.) singled to right field to drive in a pair.

The Panthers extended their lead to 4-2 in the bottom half of the second on a single by Wes Walker. In the top of the third the Wasps got the run back as junior right fielder Brogan Hoover (Stephens City, Va.) plated sophomore first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.).

After three scoreless innings, Emory & Henry got the go-ahead runs thanks to a two-out single by Christopher that drove in Houff and freshman left fielder Andrew Stockstill (Roanoke, Va.) for a 5-4 lead.

Senior pitcher Will Dingus (Powhatan, Va.) pitched the final four innings in dominant fashion to pick up the win in relief with three hits and four strikeouts.

Christopher had a pair of hits and two RBI while Hoover got a trio of hits and a RBI in the contest. Freshman Chase Kirk (Knoxville, Tenn.) went five innings with four runs on 10 hits and four strikeouts.

Walker had three hits and two RBI while Turner drove in a pair of runs on two hits. Chris Walker allowed two unearned runs in three innings of relief.

Emory & Henry will close out the 2013 season on Saturday when it travels to Hampden-Sydney College for a ODAC doubleheader at noon.
