ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The North Carolina Wesleyan College Baseball Team (3-13) scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for a 2-1 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-7) at Bauer Field.

Emory & Henry threatened to score in the top of the first inning, but stranded two runners. The Wasps got on the board with a run in the fourth. Senior first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout by junior right fielder Brandon Lineberry (Hillsville, Va.). On the next at bat, freshman third baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) singled to left centerfield, driving in Christopher.

The Wasps stranded two more runners in the fifth and eighth, but could not add a run to their lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Battling Bishops tied things up at a run apiece. With Marcus Anderson on third base thanks to a double down the left field line and a bunt single, Marcus Kornegay drove him home with a bunt to the pitcher.

NCWC got the win with a run in the bottom of the ninth, with no outs and the bases loaded, Justin DiSanto hit a fielder's choice to the pitcher, who went home for the out. Anderson then singled to right field to end the game, 2-1.

Anderson went two-for-five with a run and a RBI while Kornegay also had a two-hit afternoon. George Moore picked up the win in relief, pitching the ninth inning. Nick Henry had a no-decision in his start, allowing one run on seven hits with two strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Bryant and junior centerfielder Brett Johnson (Sugar Grove, Va.) each had two hits in the game while Christopher went one-for-three with a walk and a run scored. Sophomore left-hander Caelan Canady (Browns Summit, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in two-plus innings of work. Junior Chase Kirk (Knoxville, Tenn.) struck out three and allowed six hits in six scoreless innings on the mound.

Emory & Henry will complete its non-conference road trip on Wednesday when it travels to Fayetteville, North Carolina for a 3:00 p.m., contest against Methodist University.
