Lynchburg Baseball Takes Two From Emory & Henry Sunday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Lynchburg College Baseball Team (5-8, 2-0 ODAC) earned a pair of come-from-behind wins over Emory & Henry College (2-10, 0-3 ODAC) in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action at Porterfield/DeVault Field. The Hornets took game one by a 7-3 score and won the nightcap, 10-4. It was the first time E&H has played at home in the 2015 season.

Game One – Lynchburg 7, Emory & Henry 3
The Wasps got out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With two outs and two runners on base, freshman third baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) hammered a three-run shot to left field.

Lynchburg scored a run in the top of the third frame when Drew Taylor grounded out to second base, plating Ryan Katona, who reached on an error. The Hornets knotted things up at three runs apiece after a two-run fifth. Taylor got his second RBI of the day when he singled through the left side to drive in Joseph Knight, who doubled with one out.

LC took the lead, 4-3, in the seventh and added three insurance runs in the ninth for the final 7-3 margin.

Taylor led the way with three hits and two RBI while Joe Rogers and Rob Tomasulo had a pair of hits each. David Goulding scattered 10 hits and three runs, striking out two in the complete-game victory.

E&H junior centerfielder Brett Johnson (Sugar Grove, Va.) was three-for-five at the plate while Bryant drove in a trio of runs with his round-tripper. Senior designated hitter Kevin Nelson (Johnson City, Tenn.) had a pair of hits in the game as well. Senior lefty Aaron Sparks (Troutman, N.C.) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Game Two – Lynchburg 10, Emory & Henry 4
The Hornets took a 2-0 lead after three innings thanks to single runs in the first and third. Emory & Henry answered with a score in the fourth and got three in the fifth to go up 4-2. Bryant had a RBI double to right field while freshman designated hitter Austin Kiser (Rosedale, Va.) plated a run with an infield single.

Lynchburg tied things up at four thanks to a two-run double by Jonathan Munn in the sixth stanza. LC went up 6-4 after a two-run homer by Wil Parsons in the seventh and tacked on four runs in the ninth Pat Harris had a pinch-hit, two-run home run.

Taylor added another three hits and three runs in game two. Rogers and Munn had a pair of hits while Parsons drove in three and scored two. Brandon Miller picked up the win in relief for the Hornets, pitching the final 5.1 innings with four hits and five strikeouts.

Bryant had another two hits and two runs for Emory & Henry while Kiser and senior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) had a pair of base knocks each. Sophomore Garrett Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) took the loss, allowing two runs and two hits in relief.

Emory & Henry will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Guilford College in an ODAC contest. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
