Roanoke Baseball Takes Care Of Emory & Henry, 10-1, Tuesday Night

SALEM, Va. – The Roanoke College Baseball Team (11-6, 6-3 ODAC) completed the season sweep of Emory & Henry College (3-22, 1-13 ODAC) Tuesday night with a 10-1 victory at Lewis-Gale Field.

The Maroons got out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Craig Kiley scored on a wild pitch. E&H tied the contest at a run apiece in the third when senior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) drove in sophomore left fielder Matthew Whisnant (Connelly Springs, N.C.) on a groundout.

After two scoreless innings, Roanoke made the score 3-1 with a two-run fifth. A wild pitch allowed Will Black to come around to score while Brian Kluge was plated on Cal Hodgert's sacrifice fly. RC added a pair of runs in the sixth to extend its lead to 5-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Maroons added five insurance runs for the 10-1 final margin. A two-run triple by Collier Donald highlighted the frame as Roanoke managed five hits.

Kluge and Hodgert each had three hits in the contest with Hodgert driving in a pair and Kluge scoring twice. Kiley and Clark Crutchfield tallied two hits apiece as well. Cameron Holshouser earned the win, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts in six inning of work.

Emory & Henry freshman third baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) had two hits while Whisnant notched a hit and a run for the Wasps. Senior first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) reached base on a hit and a walk as well. Freshman left-hander Dakota Grizzel (Castlewood, Va.) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with two strikeouts despite the loss.

The Wasps will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to face the Pride of Greensboro College. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. at Ted Leonard Park.
