No. 19 Randolph-Macon Baseball Sweeps Emory & Henry Saturday In ODAC Action

ASHLAND, Va. – The No. 19 Randolph-Macon College Baseball Team (22-7, 13-7 ODAC) completed the regular season with a pair of wins over visiting Emory & Henry College (7-27, 3-17 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets are ranked 19th in NCAA Division III by D3baseball.com and the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball Polls. R-MC claimed a 13-0 win in game one and came from behind to win, 4-2 in the nightcap.

Game One – Randolph-Macon 13, Emory & Henry 0
The Yellow Jackets pounded out 18 hits en route to the shutout victory over the Wasps. A three-run third inning started things off while three more runs in the fifth made the score 6-0.

Randolph-Macon extended its lead to 8-0 after the seventh and tacked on five runs in the eighth for the final 13-0 score.

Rick Spiers went four-for-five with three runs scored while Cole Migliornini had three hits and three RBI. Nate Meiners and Hermino Azor added three hits and two runs each. James Walsh earned the win, scattering four hits over six innings of work with 10 strikeouts.

Wasp senior shortstop Jordan Woullard (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and freshman third baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) each had two hits while senior left-hander Aaron Sparks (Troutman, N.C.) took the loss on the hill.

Game Two – Randolph-Macon 4, Emory & Henry 2
After four scoreless frames to start the game, Emory & Henry got on the board in the fifth. Senior designated hitter Kevin Nelson (Johnson City, Tenn.) hit a one-out double to right centerfield and was driven home on the next at bat by freshman third baseman Holden Watkins (Ridgeway, Va.), who doubled to left center.

RMC tied things up in the bottom of the fifth on a single through the right side by Stuart Brown and took a 3-1 advantage on Mitchell Keeler's two-run single up the middle in the sixth.

Emory & Henry got within one when Nelson drove in senior first baseman Bransen Christopher (Hickory, N.C.) with a one-out single in the seventh.

The Yellow Jackets added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Keeler drove in Nick Maiolo with a sacrifice fly to left field to make the final score 4-2.

Keeler drove in three on two hits with a run scored of his own. Rick Spiers picked up the win, allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts in six innings pitched. J.T. Williamson earned the save.

Nelson was three-for-four with a run while Christopher added a hit and run of his own. Sophomore Garrett Butler (Knoxville, Tenn.) carried a no-hitter through four innings but suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

With its season complete, Emory & Henry will now await the announcement of the 2015 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, which will be released following the ODAC Tournament. The league champion will be crowned at next weekend's tournament which will be held at City Stadium in Lynchburg.
