EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (3-9) pounded out 19 hits and scored three or more runs in four different innings Sunday afternoon as it defeated Mt. Aloysius College (1-2) by a 21-11 score at Porterfield/DeVault Field. The 21 runs scored by the Wasps are the most since they put up 24 in a win over Lancaster Bible College in the 2014 season.

E&H scored six runs in the first inning thanks to three hits, three errors and a pair of walks and never looked back. The Wasps added four in the third to go up 10-0 by virtue of three hits a walk and two more miscues by the Mounties.

Mt. Aloysius got on the board in the top of the fourth with four runs, but Emory & Henry unloaded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven to go up 17-4. In the sixth, Wasp senior left fielder Ben Barnett (Knoxville, Tenn.) tagged a two-run home run to left field for his first career round-tripper. E&H added another run in the inning and got their final score in the seventh.

The Mounties added three in the seventh and scored four in the eighth to make the final margin 21-11.

Six different Emory & Henry players had a multi-hit game including sophomore centerfielder Josh Macek (Concord, N.C.), who wehnt three-for-five with four runs, a walk and a RBI. Freshman third baseman Eli Straw (Radford, Va.) went three-for-three with three RBI and two runs while junior second baseman Hunter Jeffries (Hickory, N.C.) and sophomore first baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) had two hits, two runs and two RBI each.

Freshman right-hander Gavin Felty (Bristol, Va.) picked up the win on the hill allowing four runs on six hits in five innings pitched. Freshmen Troy Polen (Lexington, N.C.) and Kyle Creasy (South Chesterfield, Va.) each put up zeros in their relief outings.

For Mt. Aloysius, Ian Helsel had three hits and two runs while Chase Miller drove in a pair on two hits with a run. The Mounties sent nine different pitchers to the hill on the afternoon.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Wednesday when it hosts Maryville (Tenn.) College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. The Scots received votes in the Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III preseason poll.
