Emory & Henry Baseball Sees Three Named To The All-ODAC Teams

FOREST, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team has seen three of its players named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference teams, ODAC officials announced Thursday. The announcement comes in conjunction with the start of the 2016 ODAC Baseball Tournament which is being played in Lynchburg this weekend.

Senior right fielder Brandon Lineberry (Hillsville, Va.) garnered first-team accolades while sophomore first baseman Carson Bryant (Hickory, N.C.) and sophomore shortstop Holden Watkins (Ridgeway, Va.) earned spots on the All-ODAC Second and Third Teams, respectively.

Lineberry started all 40 games this season and led Emory & Henry in every offensive category this year including batting average (.344), at bats (154), hits (53), runs (34), doubles (19), home runs (10), RBI (41), walks (19), on-base percentage (.418) and slugging (.662). An All-South Region Second Teamer last year, Lineberry finishes his career as the season-leader in doubles (19), second in home runs in a season (10), third in career home runs (19). He had a 17-game hitting streak between March 16 and April 16 which ranks third on the all-time list.

Bryant played in 38 games between the first base and designated hitter positions. He batted .331 for the year with nine doubles and put together a 15-game hitting streak, good for fifth all-time, between February 27 and March 25. He added 18 runs, nine doubles, nine walks, and a pair of sacrifice flies to his tally. Sure-handed with the glove as well, Bryant posted a .980 fielding percentage in turn one and was part of 20 of the team’s 28 double plays on the year.

Watkins saw action in 32 contests with 29 starts at shortstop, third base and designated hitter. He was third on the squad in batting (.333), runs (24), home runs (two), 14 RBI, and slugging percentage (.451) and his eight-extra base hits ranks fourth on the team. Watkins added six doubles and 14 RBI and led the team with five stolen bases. He notched nine multi-hit games on the season and finished the year on a 14-game hitting streak.

Randolph-Macon College took two major honors as Travis Lodge was named Player of the Year and James Walsh was tabbed as Pitcher of the Year. Washington and Lee University Coach Lucas Jones was honored as coach of the year while Generals’ pitcher Tom Concklin was named the ODAC/Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete. Brian Goodwyn of Hampden-Sydney College took Rookie of the Year honors.
