Emory & Henry Baseball Wins In Walk-Off Fashion, 15-14, To Sweep Series With Mount Aloysius

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (3-1, 0-0 ODAC) got the game-winning run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to earn a 15-14 win over Mount Aloysius College (0-4, 0-0 AMCC) Saturday afternoon. The victory gave the Wasps a 3-0 sweep in the weekend series with the Mounties.

How It Happened
- The two teams combined for 37 hits and put up at least two combined runs in all nine innings of the contest.
- With the score tied at two, Emory & Henry scored three in the bottom of the third to lead 5-2.
- MAC unloaded with five runs in the top of the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Matt McCourt, to take a 7-5 advantage. The Wasps answered with five runs of their own in the fifth as senior left fielder Zach Smith (Powder Springs, Ga.) started the rally with a two-run double.
- Emory & Henry found itself up 13-12 with one inning to play, but a two-run home run by T.J. Wardwell flipped the script and gave Mount Aloysius its first lead since the fifth inning.
- The bottom of the frame saw the Wasps tie things up when junior Kodi McIlwraith (Roanoke, Va.) scored from second base on an error by the Mounties' third baseman.
- With senior centerfielder Josh Macek (Concord, N.C.) on third base after a stolen base and a passed ball, junior second baseman Daulton Horne (Bristol, Va.) chopped a base hit over the pitcher's head, allowing Macek to score for the 15-14 victory.  

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Horne finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs and three RBI while Smith was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
- Junior third baseman Eli Straw (Radford, Va.) and sophomore catcher Caleb Wallace (Mocksville, N.C.) each tallied two hits and scored twice.
- Sophomore Alex Laws (Hudson, N.C.) pitched the first three innings of the game for E&H, with the win going to freshman Zach Houston (Waxhaw, N.C.).

Mount Aloysius Individual Leaders
- McCourt went 4-for-4 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored while Wardwell was 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.
- Nick Belka and Patrick Jobes each had three hits with Belka scoring three runs.
- Douglas Cannon suffered the loss, allowing two runs on one hit in the ninth inning.

- Emory & Henry will travel to face Ferrum College on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m., in a non-conference contest.
