Emory & Henry Baseball Tops Ferrum, 15-11, Tuesday Afternoon

FERRUM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (4-1, 0-0 ODAC) made it four-straight wins Tuesday afternoon as it defeated Ferrum College (1-8, 0-0 USA South) by a 15-11 score.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got on the board with three runs in the first and added a fourth in the second thanks to a RBI double by junior right fielder Ben Sexton (Lebanon, Va.).
- The Wasps exploded four six runs in the third to extend their lead to 10-0. Junior second baseman Daulton Horne (Bristol, Va.) plated a pair with a double while Sexton knocked another two-bagger in the frame.
- Ferrum got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the third and closed the gap to 10-4 on a single up the middle by Garrett Dorton in the sixth.
- Two runs by E&H in the eight extended the advantage to 12-4 but FC answered with two of their own to pull within 12-6 with six outs left to record.
- Emory & Henry scored three more times in the ninth for a 15-6 lead and was able to hold on as Ferrum scored five times in the bottom of the frame for the final 15-11 score.
- Freshman Noah Griffin (Fort Mill, S.C.) picked up the win, allowing four runs on seven hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.
- Austin Vernon suffered the loss for the Panthers, allowing four runs on four hits with two walks, being chased after just two innings on the hill.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sexton went 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, two RBI and two stolen bases.
- Horne put up a pair of hits, runs and RBI while senior left fielder Zach Smith (Powder Springs, Ga.) added two hits and two runs.

Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Anthony Nathaniel led the way with four hits, a run and a RBI while Dorton finished the day with three hits, two runs and four RBI.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return home for a three-game series against Southern Virginia University this weekend.
- The Wasps and Knights will play a single game on Friday at 2:00 p.m., before a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday at noon.
