EMORY, Va. – The No. 27 Shenandoah University Baseball Team (4-2, 2-0 ODAC) grabbed a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins over Emory & Henry (2-10, 0-2 ODAC) Sunday afternoon. The results could not have come in more different manners as the Hornets came from behind for a 10-8 win in game one and led wire-to-wire for an 8-1 victory in the nightcap.
The games were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but were moved back 24 hours due to the threat of rain in Southwest Virginia late Saturday afternoon.

Game One
Shenandoah got on the board in the top of the first with two runs highlighted by a single up the middle by Robert Marcelle. E&H responded in the bottom of the frame to tie the game on a two-run home run to left field by senior right fielder Ben Sexton (Lebanon, Va.). After the Hornets took a 3-2 lead in the third, the Wasps went ahead, 4-3, on a double by sophomore first baseman Joe Tolone (Concord, N.C.).
After SU retook the lead, 6-4, midway through the sixth, Sexton's three-run shot highlighted a four-run inning for Emory & Henry in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-6 lead. The Hornets battled back in the bottom of the ninth tying the game on a two-run single by Jamie Naill and getting the game-winning run on Marcelle's double to left center.
Brandon McKenzie earned the win in relief while Gerard DePhillips picked up the save. Robert Klinchock earned a no-decision as he allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks in five-plus innings. Emory & Henry sophomore Zach Houston (Waxhaw, N.C.) suffered the loss, permitting five runs on six hits and three strikeouts.
Game Two
SU scored a pair of runs in both the first and second innings to get out to a 4-0 lead. Four runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Marcelle pushed the margin out to 8-0. Emory & Henry avoided being shutout for the second time this season in the bottom of the ninth as sophomore third baseman Caleb Haynes (Covington, Va.) flared a single to right centerfield, plating Tolone for what would be the final 8-1 margin.
Reeves Lowry went eight shutout innings in the win for the Hornets, allowing just three hits while striking out five. Wasp junior Toby Robson (Blythewood, S.C.) was saddled with the loss with five earned runs on seven hits and two walks came on his four-plus inning outing.
Up Next
Emory & Henry will be on the road for its next two games, travelling to face Methodist University on Tuesday and North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday.
