Emory & Henry Baseball Defeats Mount Aloysius, 9-6, Thursday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (3-12) opened up a 9-0 lead on its way to a 9-6 victory over Mount Aloysius College (7-4) Thursday afternoon at home. With the victory, the Wasps take the season series with the Mounties, 2-1.

How It Happened
Emory & Henry got on the board in the third with three runs on three-straight doubles by seniors Andrew Francisco (Abingdon, Va.) and Ben Sexton (Lebanon, Va.) and sophomore Joe Tolone (Concord, N.C.). The Wasps extended their lead to 5-0 after the fourth as sophomore third baseman Caleb Haynes (Covington, Va.) and Francisco each had RBI base hits.

Two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and a sacrifice fly by Haynes in the seventh pushed E&H's lead to 9-0. The Mounties put together a rally with one out in the ninth, getting on the board on Trap Wentling's double to right centerfield. Matthew Brown made it a 9-4 game with a two-run single to right and a single up the middle by Andrew Pasko closed the gap three with the bases loaded. E&H was able to get a double play for the last out of the game as they completed the victory, 9-6.

Sophomore Noah Griffin (Fort Mill, S.C.) earned the win scattering six hits over six innings of work with one strikeout. Sophomore Zach Houston (Waxhaw, N.C.) picked up the save. MAC's Dylan Coyle suffered the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched.

Emory & Henry will return to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday when it visits No. 7 Randolph-Macon College in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.
