No. 7 Randolph-Macon Baseball Takes Two ODAC Contests From Emory & Henry Saturday

ASHLAND, Va. – The No. 7 Randolph-Macon College Baseball Team (5-2, 4-0 ODAC) earned two Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins over visiting Emory & Henry College (3-14, 0-4 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at  Estes Park. The Yellow Jackets took game one by a 12-0 margin and scored four in the bottom of the eighth to win game two, 7-3.

Game One - No. 7 Randolph-Macon 12, Emory & Henry 0
The Yellow Jackets got out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Mike Nickles hit a three-run shot and never looked back. Three more runs in the third on a home run by Kevin Mooney pushed the margin to 7-0.

Nickles had a two-run single in the sixth, giving R-MC a 10-0 lead. Randolph-Macon added single runs in the seventh and eighth to make the final score 12-0.

Nick Roth earned the complete-game shutout, scattering seven hits and 11 strikeouts. E&H freshman Tyler Muncy (Wise, Va.) took the loss, allowing four runs on two hits.

Game Two - No. 7 Randolph-Macon 7, Emory & Henry 3
R-MC scored first as Zach Evans hit a sacrifice fly to right field in the bottom of the second. Emory & Henry responded with two runs in the third on doubles by sophomore third baseman Hayden Milley (Clover, S.C.) and senior catcher Kodi McIlwraith (Roanoke, Va.) to take a 2-1 lead.

The Jackets tied the game in the fifth on a single by Nickles but the Wasps answered again in the sixth on with a solo home run by senior right fielder Ben Sexton (Lebanon, Va.) for a 3-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh, Randolph-Macon tied the game on a Cole Grinde fielder's choice and got the game-winning score, 7-3, in the eighth on a grand slam by Spencer Pietruszynski.

Patrick Solomita earned the win in relief for the Yellow Jackets, pitching a pair of shutout innings with just one hit and two strikeouts. Wasp sophomore J.T. Agosto (Cornelius, N.C.) took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in 2.1 innings of work with two strikeouts. Junior Toby Robson (Blythewood, S.C.) got the no-decision, scattering two runs, eight hits and four strikeouts over five innings.
