Bridgewater Baseball Sweeps Emory & Henry In Season Opener Saturday

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College Baseball Team (2-1, 2-0 ODAC) picked up a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference wins over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-2, 0-2 ODAC) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles claimed game one by an 11-0 score and completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory in the nightcap.

Game One – Bridgewater 11, Emory & Henry 0
BC jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning on a two-run single by Hunter Clever. The Eagles made it 5-0 through two with Clever adding another RBI base hit and pushed the margin to 6-0 after five. Two runs in the sixth including Clever's third run-scoring knock made the score 8-0 and after Clever added his fifth RBI in the eighth, Jason Gabreel plated a pair for the final 11-0 margin.

Hunter Mohr struck out 10 as he threw seven innings of one-hit ball on his way to the win. E&H senior Noah Griffin (Fort Mill, S.C.) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits in seven innings of work.

Game Two – Bridgewater 4, Emory & Henry 1
After two and a half scoreless innings, the Eagles scored three in the bottom of the third. Emory & Henry got on the board in the fifth as freshman infielder Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating senior outfielder Jacob Zoller (Culpeper, Va.). BC got the run back in the bottom of the sixth on a double to right field by Timothy Hopson for the final 4-1 margin.

Waring Garber earned the win for the Eagles, allowing just one unearned run on six hits in six innings while Tucker Hrasky picked up the save striking out two in the final 1.1 innings of the contest. Wasp senior J.T. Agosto (Cornelius, N.C.) was settled with the loss, allowing one earned run on eight hits in seven innings.

Emory & Henry will play its home opener next Saturday when it hosts No. 35 Shenandoah University at noon.
