Emory & Henry Baseball Holds Off Covenant, 7-6, Friday Afternoon

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (3-5) built a 7-1 lead after four innings on its way to a 7-6 victory at Covenant College (3-4) Friday afternoon in the first contest of a three-game series with the Scots.

How It Happened
Covenant got on the board in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly to centerfield by Kenny Mills. The Wasps broke through in the third, scoring runs on a double by freshman left fielder Sean Davis-Cherry (Chesapeake, Va.) and a single by sophomore third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.).

In the fourth frame, E&H plated four for a 7-1 advantage. Davis-Cherry came through with a two-run double down the left field line to highlight the frame as sophomore second baseman Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) also had a run-scoring base knock.

Covenant began its rally in the fifth on a single to left field by Andrew Brock. The Scots scored four in the seventh highlighted by McKaleb Harlemon's double down the left field line which pushed two across and capped the scoring at 7-6.

Both teams got runners aboard in the eighth and Covenant threatened in the ninth but the Wasps were able to hold on for the win.

Freshman Luke Kennedy (Irmo, S.C.) earned his first career win, scattering two runs on four hits over six innings. Freshman Zack McRae (Greensboro, N.C.) grabbed the three-inning save. Covenant's Aaron Northcutt suffered the loss, permitting seven runs on eight hits.

Emory & Henry and Covenant will conclude their three-game series on Saturday with a pair of seven-inning games beginning at noon.
