How It Happened
The Wasps scored a pair of runs in the first inning to jump in front. Junior third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) reached on a throwing error and came around to score on a groundout from senior outfielder Tyler Bradley (Bessemer City, N.C.) to make it 1-0. E&H added another on an RBI single from fifth-year designated hitter Matthew Long (Willow Spring, N.C.).

Emory & Henry struck again in the top of the second on a two-run home run off of the bat of Bradley to run the score to 4-0. The Mountain Lions responded in the home half of the second with three runs of their own to reduce the gap to 4-3.

E&H would explode for six runs in the visiting half of the third inning. Junior first baseman Cole Cunningham (Wake Forest, N.C.) drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second when Long was plunked with a pitch. A sacrifice bunt from senior catcher Camden Bailey (Sterling, Ill.) moved both runners up and a sacrifice fly from junior shortstop Kolby Anderson (King William, Va.) made it a 5-3 game. Senior second baseman Noah Mazza (Plainfield, Ill.) and Foley contributed back-to-back RBI singles to run the Wasps' advantage to 7-3. Bradley left the yard for the second time of the afternoon with a three-run bomb to give the visitors from Emory the 10-3 lead after three innings.

Cunningham and junior outfielder Matt Hill (Pineville, N.C.) joined the home run parade in the top of the fourth, as they each launched solo shots to increase the E&H advantage to 12-3. The Wasps rounded out the scoring in the top of the seventh with a two-RBI single from junior outfielder Wayne Mize (Salisbury, N.C.) to run the score to its final at 14-6.

Fifth-year right-handed pitcher Michael Owen (Charlotte, N.C.) earned the victory on the hill for the Wasps as he went five innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out three Concord batters. Evan Hosey took the loss for the Mountain Lions, giving up four runs over just two innings. Bradley led the way for the Emory & Henry offense, posting the pair of long balls to go along with five RBI.
