Noah Mazza crosses the plate.

HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial Baseball Team (25-16, 11-11 SAC) took game one of a three-game South Atlantic Conference series over Emory & Henry College (12-33, 3-18 SAC) on Friday evening. The Railsplitters utilized a strong effort on the mound to take the victory by a 7-1 margin.

The Basics
GAME ONE – Lincoln Memorial 7, Emory & Henry 1
LOCATION – Harrogate, Tennessee
VENUE – Lamar Hennon Field
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (12-33, 3-18 SAC); Lincoln Memorial (25-16, 11-11 SAC)

How It Happened
The Railsplitters jumped on the Wasps early as they plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. A solo shot from Cameron Bowen and an RBI groundout gave LMU the 2-0 lead after one.

Both teams' bats were held silent through the middle innings, as neither squad could crack the scoreboard over the next five frames of play. The Wasps threatened in the top of the seventh with a two-out rally as senior catcher Camden Bailey (Sterling, Ill.) singled, fifth-year shortstop Mason Lyda (Mills River, N.C.) reached on an error and senior second baseman Noah Mazza (Plainfield, Ill.) singled to load the bases. The Railsplitters would make a move to the bullpen and get the final out of the inning to silence the rally.

LMU struck for three in the bottom of the seventh after a walk and hit-by-pitch set the table for Carson Boles to clear the bases with one swing of the bat and make it 5-0 Railsplitters. The home team added a pair in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-RBI single from Bowen to balloon its lead out to 7-0. The Wasps pushed one across in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Mazza to plate senior outfielder Jermie Greene, Jr. (Troutman, N.C.), but it was not enough and Lincoln Memorial took the series opener by a 7-1 final score.

Patrick Queener was the winning pitcher for Lincoln Memorial as he went 6.2 shutout innings, scattering just four hits and two walks while striking out a batter. Senior righty Zach Clover (Cary, N.C.) was the tough-luck loser on the night for E&H after allowing only two runs and five hits with a strikeout over four innings of work.
