Emory & Henry Baseball’s Wayne Mize Named To NCBWA All-Southeast Region Second Team

WINGATE, N.C. – Emory & Henry College outfielder Wayne Mize (Salisbury, N.C.) has received further accolades for his play during the 2023 season. The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association recently announced that the junior has been picked to the All-Southeast Region Second Team. Mize was previously honored as an All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team selection. 

Mize was tied for fifth in the South Atlantic Conference and ranked second on the E&H squad with a batting average of .389. He also ranked tied for eighth in the league in hits (65), while his 11 home runs led the Wasps and placed him tied for fifth amongst the conference leaders. His 44 RBI also put him tied for eighth in the conference and led Emory & Henry. 

Mize had multiple hits in 20 of the Wasps' 47 games during the season and posted a 5-5 day against Coker (Mar. 25) when he also tied the program record with three home runs in a single game. He also drove in a season-high six runs against Mars Hill (Apr. 10).

Emory & Henry posted a 12-35 mark on the year with a 3-20 record in conference play during its first year in the South Atlantic Conference. The Wasps finished 13th in the league standings.
