Emory & Henry’s Wayne Mize Picks Up VaSID All-State Accolades

NORFOLK, Va. – Emory & Henry College junior Wayne Mize has been selected to the VaSID All-State College Division Baseball Team, as voted by VaSID officials.

The Salisbury, North Carolina native was named to the all-state second team for his performance during the 2023 season. Mize led the Wasps in batting average (.389), home runs (11), doubles (17), RBI (44), on-base percentage (.486) and slugging percentage (.689). He was also selected to the All-SAC Second Team, NCBWA All-Southeast Region Second Team and ABCA/Rawlings All-Southeast Region Second Team. 

University of Lynchburg, the Division III National Champion, dominated the yearly awards as Lucas Jones was named State Coach of the Year, Jack Bachmore was named State Pitcher of the Year and Ben Jones earned the nod as State Rookie of the Year. Ethan Iannuzzi of Randolph-Macon College was selected as State Player of the Year. 

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 15 sports and five single-division teams. The group also recognizes Academic All-State teams across all sports.
