Georgia Southwestern Baseball Takes Both Ends Of Saturday Doubleheader Against Emory & Henry

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Georgia Southwestern University Baseball Team (3-0) completed the three-game sweep of Emory & Henry College (0-3) with a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes took game one by an 11-1 final in eight innings before dispatching the Wasps 10-0 in another eight inning game in game two.

Game One - Georgia Southwestern 11, Emory & Henry 1 (Eight Innings)
The Hurricanes struck first in the bottom of the third inning as they strung together five runs on four hits to take a 5-0 lead. The Wasps scored their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth when senior outfielder Matt Hill (Pineville, N.C.) drew a one-out walk, advanced to third on a double from fifth-year outfielder Tyler Bradley (Bessemer City, N.C.) and came in to score on an RBI fielder's choice off of the bat of fifth-year outfielder Jermie Greene, Jr. (Troutman, N.C.). 

GSW answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and tacked on single runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings. The Hurricanes clinched the win by ten-run mercy rule in the bottom of the eighth. Rijnaldo Euson earned the win for Georgia Southwestern as he went 5 ⅔ innings, giving up just one hit and one run while striking out seven. Senior starter Hunter Kirkpatrick (Albany, Ore.) was saddled with the loss after surrendering five hits and five runs through 2 ⅓ innings on the hill. Bradley, senior catcher Caeden Howell (Roaring River, N.C.) and junior designated hitter Steven Smith (Salisbury, N.C.) each recorded one hit in the loss. 

Game Two - Georgia Southwestern 10, Emory & Henry 0 (Eight Innings)
GSW jumped ahead in the bottom of the first with a run to go up 1-0. They then added 5 more in the bottom of the second on four base knocks. The Hurricanes made it 7-0 in the home half of the fifth on a solo shot from George Davis. The home team closed things out with three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the second game of the doubleheader and complete the sweep by a 10-0 scoreline. 

Grant Adams was the winning hurler for the Hurricanes as he threw three scoreless innings in relief. Senior righty Bryson Wagner (Salisbury, N.C.) took the loss for E&H, allowing six runs on five hits over three innings. Smith, Bradley and Greene, Jr. accounted for the three hits for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry is back on the road next weekend as the Wasps make the trip to Florence, S.C. to take on the Francis Marion University Patriots in a three-game series. First pitch for game one is scheduled for Saturday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m..
