How It Happened
The Wasps took the early lead in the bottom of the second inning after senior outfielder Matt Hill (Pineville, N.C.) doubled, sophomore catcher Garrison Bullock (Concord, N.C.) singled and senior outfielder Triston Hensley (Covington, Va.) perfectly executed a safety squeeze to score Hill and make it 1-0. Senior third baseman Jared Foley (Sparta, N.C.) followed a pair of batters later with an RBI double to left center to run the advantage out to 2-0 after two innings.

The Eagles were kept off of the scoreboard until they struck for solo runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh to jump ahead 3-2. E&H responded in the home half of the seventh inning. Foley led off with a walk and moved up on a sacrifice bunt by fifth-year second baseman Noah Mazza (Plainfield, Ill.). Fifth-year first baseman Jermie Greene, Jr. (Troutman, N.C.) walked and junior designated hitter Jacob Bebber (Taylorsville, N.C.) laced a two-RBI double into the gap in left center to plate Foley and Greene, Jr. to push the Wasps back in front 4-3.

The Wasps poured it on in the eighth, adding five insurance runs. Hensley and fifth-year outfielder Christian Schmidt (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) recorded back-to-back singles and freshman shortstop Anthony Umbach (Harrisburg, N.C.) scored Hensley on an RBI bunt single. Mazza plated another with an RBI single to center field and Bebber cleared the bases with a three-run bomb, his second long ball of the season, to give E&H a 9-3 lead. The Eagles rallied with three runs in the top of the ninth, but freshman lefty reliever C.J. Lincoln (Aiken, S.C.) recorded the final out of the game to seal the win and earn his first career save.

Junior pitcher Nickolas Kalaflut (Santa Cruz, Calif.) earned the win on the hill after allowing one run on one hit over one inning while striking out a batter. Ryan Higgins took the loss for the Eagles, surrendering a pair of runs on one hit in one inning of work. Bebber led the way offensively for the Wasps with a career-high five RBIs on a pair of hits. Hill and Hensley each added a pair of base knocks in the winning effort for the Wasps.
