Newberry Baseball Downs Emory & Henry, 10-0, In SAC Play

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Baseball Team (11-36, 6-22 SAC) began its final South Atlantic Conference series of the year with a road loss to Newberry College (22-25, 16-12 SAC) Friday evening. The Wolves took the 10-0 shutout win in eight innings.

How It Happened
Newberry jumped out front early with three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second to take the 4-0 lead. The Wolves tacked on two more in the fourth inning to push their margin out to six. The home team continued to add to its lead with three scores on three hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth to run the tally to 9-0. The Wolves wrapped up the game with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth to clinch the 10-0 victory. 

Matias Marchesini was awarded the win after throwing seven shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five batters. Fifth-year righty Nick Cerrato (Oswego, Ill.) took the loss for E&H, surrendering three runs, one earned, on four hits with one strikeout over ⅔ of an inning. Junior first baseman Jacob Bebber (Taylorsville, N.C.) had the only hit of the game for the Wasps.

The Wasps wrap up the 2024 season on Saturday, April 27 with a doubleheader against the Wolves. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from the Smith Road Complex.
