LYNCHBURG/SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team had two days full of competition this past weekend. The Wasps spent Saturday at an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association event at Randolph College and completed the trip with a show at Sweet Briar Sunday.

On Saturday at Randolph, junior Bailey Halverson (Concord, N.C.) was the reserve "high-point rider of the day"  after winner her Intermediate Over Fences class and placing second in Novice On The Flat.

Sophomore Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) was second in the Novice Over Fences class while senior Jen Dininger (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took third in Walk/Trot/Canter. In his first ever collegiate competition, freshman Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) was third in the Walk/Trot class.

As a team, E&H placed ninth out of 13 teams on Saturday afternoon with a total of 15 points. Sweet Briar won the day with 36 points.

Sunday at Sweet Briar, senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) won both of her novice classes and took home "high-point rider of the day" honors. Martino claimed first in the Novice Over Fences class and was sixth in the Intermediate On The Flat class.

Junior Emily McBee (Cartersville, Ga.) finished third in the Open On The Flat class and claimed sixth in the Over Fences class. Sophomore Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) won the Walk/Trot/Canter class while Reyes finished second in Walk/Trot.

Although finishing fifth, Emory & Henry's score of 31 was just three points out of first place, which Washington and Lee University took by a tie-breaker with the University of Virginia.

With three regional shows remaining in the next two weeks, Emory & Henry has the potential to qualify for six rides at the IHSA Region Championship, hosted by Virginia on Sunday, February 22.

E&H will next compete on Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater for an IHSA show.
