Intermont Equestrian Finishes Sixth At Randolph IHSA Show Saturday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA team opened the 2015-16 season on Saturday at Randolph College with a sixth-place finish out of 13 teams. The day was highlighted by two Wasps qualifying for the Zone 4-Region 2 Championship with their rides while the team brought home nine different top three finishes.

Senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) finished first in Novice Equitation Over Fences and Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. Her ride in Novice O/F earned her a spot at regionals in April and "High-Point Rider of the Day" honors.

Junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) turned in a number two finish in Intermediate Flat and qualified for regionals with his sixth-place finish in Novice Over Fences.

Sophomore Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) was second in Walk/Trot while juniors Victoria Lustig (Galisteo, N.M.) and Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) finished second in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. Sophomore Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) claimed third in Advanced W/T/C.

Emory & Henry got a pair of third-place finishes in Novice on the Flat from sophomore Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) and freshman Jane Mikusa (Crystal Lake, Ill.).

In the Intermediate Over Fences, senior Bailey Halverson (Concord, N.C.) finished sixth while senior Emily McBee (Cartersville, Ga.) turned in a fifth- and seventh-place performance in Open Equitation on the Flat and Open Over Fences, respectively.

The IHSA team will be back in action on Saturday, October 17 when it shows at Hollins University.
