Intermont Equestrian Places Third At Hollins IHSA Show Saturday

ROANOKE, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team had its second show of the fall season Saturday on the campus of Hollins University. The Wasps placed third out of 13 teams competing and saw three of their riders win their classes.

Senior Emily McBee (Cartersville, Ga.) won in Open Equitation on the Flat and finished third in Open Over Fences.

In the Intermediate Over Fences classes, senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) and junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) earned first place in their first rides at intermediate. The pair both qualified for regional competition in the first show of the year at Novice Over Fences and advanced to the intermediate level. Martino and Sollenberger were fifth and sixth, respectively, in Intermediate Flat.

Senior Karissa Donohue (Benson, N.C.) was second in Novice Over Fences while sophomore Jane Mikusa (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was fifth. Sophomore Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) was the reserve champion in Novice on the Flat with Mikusa putting up a third-place finish.

Junior Hannah Phillips (Virginia Beach, Va.) was third in Walk/Trot/Canter while junior Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) came in fourth. Sophomore Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) earned second place in Walk/Trot.

Hollins earned the team championship for the day while Bridgewater College was the Reserve Champion.

The next IHSA show for Emory & Henry will be on Saturday, October 31 on the campus of Bridgewater College.
