Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Begins The Spring Semester With Three Competitions

The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team started off the spring semester with three competitions in the past two weeks. The Wasps started off with a seventh-place finish at the Winter Tournament of Champions, hosted by Ohio University and competed this past weekend at shows on the campuses of Randolph College and Sweet Briar College.

COOLVILLE, Ohio – On Saturday and Sunday, January 30 and 31, E&H competed at the Winter Tournament of Champions hosted by Ohio University at Stonegate Farm. The Wasps finished seventh out of 14 teams in attendance from across the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest Regions.

During the team competition, senior Emily McBee (Cartersville, Ga.) finished sixth in the Open Over Fences while junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) posted a third-place finish in Open on the Flat.

In the Intermediate Levels, Martino was fifth Over Fences while freshman Francisco Caba-Guil (Almería, SPAIN) posted a fourth-place finish on the Flat in his first collegiate competition.

Sophomore Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) was the reserve champion in Novice on the Flat and third in Novice Over Fences.

In Walk/Trot/Canter, junior Hannah Phillips (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fifth while sophomore Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) was the reserve champion in Walk/Trot.

During individual competition on Day Two, McBee was 10th in the Open Level while Henard was fifth in Novice.

Savannah College of Art & Design was the Team Champion while Goucher College finished as Reserve Champion.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – On Saturday, February 13, Emory & Henry finished third out of 13 teams in a Zone 4-Region 2 regular season show at Randolph College.

McBee competed at the Open Level both Over Fences and on the Flat.

At the Intermediate Level, Martino and senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) both claimed reserve champion honors while senior Bailey Halverson (Concord, N.C.) was third. Martino and Sollenberger had third-place finishes on the Flat as well.

In Novice competition, senior Karissa Donohue (Benson, N.C.) won her flight Over Fences while Henard was second in her Over Fences draw. Novice on the Flat saw Halverson and Henard each win their divisions while Donohue was third. Halverson qualified for regional competition in Novice on the Flat with her ride.

In Walk/Trot/Canter, junior Taylor Carroll (Garner, N.C.) was second while sophomore Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) placed sixth.

Junior Taylor McMichael (Lexington, Va.) won her draw in Walk/Trot and junior Ana-Belen Gomez (Irving, Texas) was second.

Henard was named Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day after her first-place finish in Novice on the Flat.

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sunday, February 14 saw the Wasps travel to Sweet Briar College for another Zone 4-Region 2 show. E&H finished fourth out of 13 teams.

McBee was fifth in Open Over Fence and claimed sixth On the Flat.

In the Intermediate classes, Sollenberger won her draw while Martino was third On the Flat. Both also competed in Intermediate Over Fences.

Donohue was second in Novice Over Fences while Henard turned in a third-place finish On the Flat.

In Walk/Trot/Canter, Worth-Jones had a first-place showing. Gomez claimed fourth in Walk/Trot.

Emory & Henry's next IHSA show will be on Saturday, February 20 when it travels to Bridgewater College.
