Three Intermont Equestrian IHSA Riders Qualify For Nationals At Zone 4 Championships Saturday

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Three riders from the Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team will be representing the Wasps at the 2016 IHSA National Finals. The trio earns their trip to next month's national championships via their finishes at the Zone 4 Championships Saturday at Hazelwild Farm, the home venue of the University of Mary Washington.

In Novice Equitation Over Fences, Emory & Henry took the top two spots out of 10 competing riders, qualifying both riders for nationals. Senior Morgan Sollenberger (Concord, N.C.) was the Zone Champion while junior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) earned reserve-champion honors. The pair also finished 1-2 at the Zone 4-Region 2 championships in March.

Sophomore Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) turned in a reserve champion finish in Walk/Trot Equitation out of 10 competitors and will also represent the Wasps in the National Finals.

This will be Sollenberger's second trip to the IHSA National Finals. In 2015, she reached the event as an alternate and won the Cramer Memorial Trophy as National Grand Champion for Novice Equitation on the Flat.

The IHSA National Finals will be contested between Thursday, May 5 and Sunday, May 7 at The Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The Novice Over Fences competition will be on Thursday morning while Walk/Trot will show on Friday afternoon.
