Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Wins Region With Third-Place Finish Saturday

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team turned in a third-place finish Saturday at Virginia Tech. With the victory, the Wasps have officially won the Zone 4 – Region 5 regular season championship and have qualified as a team for the Zone 4 Championships in April.

The Results
- Junior Sydney Casady (Harriman, Tenn.) won her section of Open Equitation Over Fences while senior Nick Martino (Bel Air, Md.) and sophomore Francisco Caba-Guil (Almería, SPAIN) were third. Caba-Guil was third in Open on the Flat while Martino finished fifth.
- In the Intermediate Over Fences competition, freshman Madison McKinsey (Waynesboro, Va.) and junior Billie Henard (Kingsport, Tenn.) both won their sections. Junior Jane Mikusa (Crystal Lake, Ill.) was second in Intermediate on the Flat while Henard took third.
- Freshman Bobbie Jo Adsit (Montpelier, Va.)  was the reserve champion of her section of Novice Over Fences and Mikusa took sixth in hers. Adsit and junior Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) each picked up wins in Novice Equitation on the Flat.
- Junior Galen Reyes (Hixson, Tenn.) took second in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter while freshman Cara Brooks (Suwanee, Ga.) was third.
- Freshman Ginna Jahoda (Waynesboro, Va.) turned in a fifth-place finish in Walk/Trot Equitation.

The Awards
- Virginia Tech won the show while Averett University was the reserve team champion. E&H took third.
- Both Caba-Guil and Adsit qualified for next month's Zone 4 – Region 5 Championship thanks to their performances Saturday.
- Adsit was also named the show's High Point Rider.

Next Up
- The Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team will next compete at the Zone 4 - Region 5 Championship on Saturday, March 18 at Averett University.
