MIDDLEBURG, Va. – Emory & Henry College senior Eli Worth-Jones (Abingdon, Va.) is featured prominently in the October 16, 2017 issue of "The Chronicle of the Horse."
Worth-Jones, a fourth-year rider for E&H's Intermont Equestrian teams, has mixed competitive success in the ring with academic achievement and a commitment to his community as a certified EMT and volunteer firefighter with Washington County Fire & Rescue. Additionally, Worth-Jones built on his love for the outdoors as a member of the Boy Scouts of America by becoming a ropes specialist for search & rescue.
A two-time team Intercollegiate Dressage Association National Champion and the 2016 National Champion in the IDA Lower Training Level, Worth-Jones has quickly advanced through the ranks of dressage, taking his first riding class in the sport as a high school senior. This year, he is one of five First Level riders for E&H.
Worth-Jones' competitive accomplishments do not stop at IDA. He finished eighth in the nation at the 2017 Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association National Finals in Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation as an individual and competed for the team in Novice Equitation on the Flat. On Saturday, October 21, he earned High-Point Rider of the Day at High Point University.
A biology major, Worth-Jones is still keeping his options open. The options of being a physician's assistant or veterinarian compete with professional horse training, fire & rescue, EMS, and Air Force pararescue & aiding at disaster relief sites.
