Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Opens The Year With A Win At Averett Saturday

Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team following Saturday's win at Averett.

PROVIDENCE, N.C. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team opened the season in dominant fashion on Saturday at Averett University. The Wasps earned seven blue ribbons on the day and saw no rider who tacked up finish below third.

The Results
- Sophomore Hayden Wilkes (Shamong, N.J.) won at Open Equitation over Fences and Intermediate Equitation on the Flat while senior Bobbie Jo Adsit (Montpelier, Va.) took first at Open Flat and third at Open Fences. Senior Maddie Bonner (Powhatan, Va.) claimed third on Open on the Flat.
- In Intermediate over Fences, sophomore Abby McCoy (Cogan Station, Pa.) and senior Kira Boerst (Seymour, Wis.) were first and second, respectively while sophomore Remy Tait (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) was second in Intermediate on the Flat.
- Sophomore Josie Sumner (Hampshire, Ill.) claimed second in Novice Fences while sophomore Emilie Fink (Jamesport, N.Y.) was second In Novice Fences and third on the Flat. Sophomore Makalyn Williams (Granville, Ohio) won at Novice Flat.
- In Walk/Trot/Canter Equitation, sophomore Becca Pagnini (Beaverdam, Va.) and freshman Daniella Lima (Clemmons, N.C.) each picked up wins in their respective classes.
- Sophomore Brinley Thomas (Farmville, Va.) closed out the show with a second-place ride in Walk/Trot.

The Awards
- Wilkes earned High-Point Rider of the Day honors while Williams was named Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day.
- High Point University and Western Carolina University tied for reserve champion in the team standings behind E&H.

- Intermont Equestrian will continue action on Sunday as the IDA Team opens the year with a show at Bridgewater.
- The next IHSA show is set for Sunday, October 6 at Wake Forest University.
