Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Wins Again With Sunday Victory At UNC Greensboro

Intermont Equestrian IHSA team after Sunday's 2/18 win at UNCG.

RANDLEMAN, N.C. – The Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College IHSA Team continued the spring season, concluding the doubleheader weekend with a win at UNC Greensboro. The Wasps took home 10 out of 11 possible podium finishes.

The Basics

The Results
- Junior Emma Pell (Winchester, Va.) started the day with another win in Open Over Fences and a second place on the Flat.
- In intermediate, junior Liv Abbruzzi (Irmo, S.C.) added two blue ribbons to her collection, winning her Over Fences and Flat divisions. At the same time, sophomore Elizabeth Church (Elk Grove, Calif.) finished second on the Flat.
- In Limit Over Fences, junior Madison Couperthwait (Otego, N.Y.) snagged second, with freshman Grace Simpson (Culpeper, Va.) following in her footsteps to add another red ribbon to the day's collection. The flat portion saw senior Reme Sharp (Strasburg, Va.) earn first, pointing him out to regionals, and junior Grace Reynen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) followed suit with another blue.
- The Novice division saw freshman Maeve Nickloes (Maryville, Tenn.) take third and senior Skyler Shaw (Orangeville, Pa.) grab fourth, putting her through to regionals.

A Deeper Look
- The Intermont Equestrian team galloped to another victory this Sunday at the UNC Greensboro competition, clinching ten out of 11 possible podium finishes. Liv Abbruzzi was named the day's High-Point Rider after winning both her classes over fences and on the flat, and Emma Pell was named the day's Reserve High-Point Rider.
- Abbruzzi reflected on the team's accomplishments and expressed pride in her teammates' performances, emphasizing the positive atmosphere that helps them succeed.
- "I'm just so proud of how everyone did today and so happy that everyone is so supportive of each other. Everyone rides better when we are having a good time," Abbruzzi remarked. Pell echoed her sentiments, expressing gratitude for the opportunities and excitement for the remainder of the season.
- Happy with the team's performance, coaches Abby McCoy and Heather Richardson expressed their pride in the team on their bus ride back to campus. There's an increasing excitement and a palpable buzz in the air as the Intermont Equestrian team maintains its winning streak going into the remainder of the season.

The Awards
- Abbruzzi was High-Point Rider of the day thanks to her wins in the over fences division thanks to her draw, Roy, and flat win aboard May.
- Pell was the Reserve High-Point Rider of the Day thanks to her win in open fences aboard West and her flat mount Razi.
