Intermont Equestrian IHSA Team Takes Zone 4 Reserve Championship Saturday To Qualify For Nationals

SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College has qualified for the International Horse Shows Association National Championships for the fifth time in the last six seasons. The Wasps finished as the Zone 4 Reserve Champion on Saturday at Sweet Briar and will look to return to the top of the podium after finishing third at last year's championship show.

Team Competition
The Wasps earned a clean sweep over Fences as they took the reserve championship for the Zone. 

Junior Emma Pell (Winchester, Va.) started the day with a first-place finish and the team title in Open Over Fences riding Hemingway and was fourth on the Flat later that day aboard Harry.

In the Intermediate competition, junior Sierra Smith (Olathe, Kan.) won the Zone 4 title at Intermediate Over Fences riding Aate, winning over fences at zones for her second year in a row. Senior Kendall Madison (Westtown, N.Y.) was third on the Flat with her mount Ozzy.

Freshman Isabella Oglesby (Virginia Beach, Va.) took her shot at Limit Over Fences with Harley, adding another blue to the Wasps' collection. Junior Grace Reynen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) competed at Limit on the Flat, riding Dino to a fourth-place finish.

Freshman Maeve Nickloes (Maryville, Tenn.) posted a first-place finish in Novice, while junior Thomas Carter (Asheville, N.C.) took third place in Introductory.

Individual Competition
Pell qualified for the IHSA National Championships Cacchione Cup, placing third. She also punched her ticket in Open on the Flat with a Zone Reserve Championship and was fifth in Open Over Fences.

Junior Maddie Whitley (Stuarts Draft. Va.) won the Zone 4 Championship in Novice on the Flat to also earn a spot in the national show.

Smith was fifth in Limit Over Fences while senior Reme Sharp (Strasburg, Va.) was seventh in Limit on the Flat.

Next Up
Emory & Henry will next compete in the IHSA National Championship between Friday, May 3, and Sunday, May 5. The Tryon International Equestrian Center will host this year's national show.
