Emory & Henry Football Announces Week One Team Awards

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team has selected its team players of the week, Head Coach Don Montgomery announced today. Five players have been honored for their accomplishments during week one's 45-36 victory over Ferrum College.

Junior quarterback Kyle Boden (Offense), sophomore offensive lineman Isaac Bowman (Offensive Line), senior linebacker Devan Sproles (Defense), senior kicker Matt Turchin (Special Teams) and junior defensive back Jason Hill (Gatorade Heavy Hit of the Week) are the first to win their respective awards this season.

Boden, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., went 30-for-52 through the air for 355 yards and four touchdowns en route to also being named ODAC Offensive Player of the Week. His 30 completions puts him tied for third in most completions in one game, a record that he set with 51 completions against Hampden-Sydney in 2011.

Bowman, from Gray, Tenn., graded out as the Wasps' top offensive lineman, as E&H rolled up 470 yards of total offense. Bowman and his fellow offensive lineman did not allow a sack in the contest.

Norton, Va. native and reigning ODAC Defensive Player of the Year Sproles led all players with 10 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss while Hill (Hickory, N.C.) made three stops including the hardest hit of the contest for the Wasps.

Turchin went 6-for-6 from the point-after distance and converted a 25-yard field goal for nine total points on the day.

Emory & Henry will travel to Maryville, Tenn., on Saturday afternoon to face the Scots at 1:30 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two long-time rivals since the 200 season. The Wasps won that contest by a 34-17 score at then-Fullerton Field.
