Emory & Henry Football Receiving Votes In First AFCA Coaches’ Poll Of 2012

WACO, Texas – The Emory & Henry College Football Team is receiving votes in the first AFCA Top 25 Poll of the 2012 season, AFCA officials announced Monday. The AFCA is the American Football Coaches Association.

The Wasps, off to a 3-0 start for the third time in four years, received six votes in the poll. Last Saturday, Emory & Henry overcame a 20-10 halftime deficit, scoring on their first four possessions of the second half to put together a 34-20 victory over Methodist University. It was E&H's fourth-straight victory in home openers.

Hampden-Sydney College is the only other Old Dominion Athletic Conference team mentioned in the poll. The Tigers are ranked 21st-nationally this week after opening the season with a 2-0 record.

Topping the list this week is the University of Mount Union (Ohio) (2-0). The Purple Raiders have been ranked in the top two of every season-opening poll since its inception in 1999.

Rounding out the top five are: The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas), the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), Linfield College (Ore.) and the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Emory & Henry will have its annual bye week this week and will next take the field on Saturday, September 29. The Wasps will host the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College at Fred Selfe Stadium, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.
