Ross Ellis Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College senior linebacker Ross Ellis has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Abingdon, Va., native wins the award for the first time in his career. It is the third time this year that an E&H player has earned weekly league honors.

Ellis led the Emory & Henry defense in pitching a second-half shutout Saturday against Catholic. He made 10 tackles on the day and and had two takeaways (one fumble recovery and one interception) that led to scores by the Wasps, including the field goal that gave them the 15-14 win on Homecoming day.

For the season, Ellis leads Emory & Henry with 62 tackles and seven tackles for a loss. He has recovered three fumbles, including one for a touchdown, and has an interception, five quarterback hurries and four passes broken up.

Ellis was also named the E&H's first-ever Homecoming King and was coronated Friday night at the College's pep rally.

Emory & Henry will visit Bridgewater College next Saturday for an ODAC contest. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
