Tre’von Lightfoot Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College sophomore corner Tre'von Lightfoot has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Big Island, Virginia, native wins the award for the first time in his career. It is the second time this year that an E&H defender has earned weekly honors from the league.

Lightfoot helped Emory & Henry hold off a second-half comeback attempt by Bridgewater College Saturday, picking off a pair of passes and making six tackles. The interceptions were career firsts for Lightfoot and accounted for two of the Wasps' four turnovers in the game as they held the Eagles to just 251 yards of offense in the opening three quarters of play.

Emory & Henry built a 34-7 fourth-quarter lead thanks to 27 straight points as it defeated Bridgewater, by a 34-21 score. The Wasps are now the only remaining undefeated college football team in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is also the first time since the 1998 season that Emory & Henry has started the season 5-0 and the first time since 2001 that it is 2-0 in ODAC action.

It is the third time this season that a Wasp is featured as one of the conference's top performers. E&H freshman quarterback Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.) was the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for Week One. Senior safety Roth Healey (Easton, Pa.) was selected as the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week in Week Two.

Emory & Henry (5-0, 2-0 ODAC) will put its undefeated record to the text next Saturday when it travels to face Hampden-Sydney (4-1, 2-0 ODAC) to determine who will be the last undefeated team in ODAC play. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m., at Everett Stadium.
