Clint Peregoy Named ODAC Defensive Player Of The Week

FOREST, Va. - Emory & Henry College senior safety Clint Peregoy has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, ODAC officials announced Sunday. The Salem, Virginia, native wins the award for the first time in his career. It is the third time this year that an E&H defender has earned weekly honors from the league.

Peregoy made a pair of big plays for the Wasps in Saturday's 62-28 rout of The Catholic University of America. He blocked a first-quarter punt which was returned for a touchdown, putting E&H up 14-7. The touchdown was part of a 48-7 scoring run by Emory & Henry. It was Peregoy's third punt block in two weeks.

The Salem High School graduate snagged his team-leading fourth interception of the year midway through the fourth quarter. That set up a 12-play, 97-yard drive to give the Wasps a 62-28 lead. Peregoy also added four tackles, three of them solo, in the game.

The 62 points are the most scored by an Emory & Henry team in an ODAC game and the most in any game since a 63-point outing against Tennessee Wesleyan College in the 1986 season.

It is the fourth time this season that a Wasp is featured as one of the conference's top performers. E&H freshman quarterback Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.) was the ODAC Offensive Player of the Week for Week One. Senior safety Roth Healey (Easton, Pa.) was selected as the ODAC Defensive Player of the Week in Week Two while sophomore corner Tre'von Lightfoot (Big Island, Va.) earned defensive honors in Week Six.

Emory & Henry (6-1, 3-1 ODAC) will go on the road for the final time next Saturday when it travels to face Washington and Lee University (1-6, 1-3 ODAC) for a league contest at Wilson Field. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
