Lucas Kirby Named To Capital One Academic All-America First Team By CoSIDA

FARGO, N.D. – Senior wide receiver Lucas Kirby (Covington, Va.) has been selected to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Football First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America, CoSIDA officials announced Tuesday. This marks the third year in a row that a member of the E&H football team has earned Academic All-America honors.

Following the 2012 and 2013 seasons, quarterback Kyle Boden was honored as the Farm Bureau/ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the year and went on to earn Academic All-America Second-Team accolades.

In the classroom, Kirby holds a 3.79 grade point average, double majoring in accounting and economics. He is also a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society and a representative on E&H's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Kirby caught a career-high 56 passes for 580 yards and six touchdowns this past season. The Alleghany High School graduate had seven games with over 50 receiving yards, led by a six-catch, 91-yard day at Sewanee.

For his career, Kirby made 137 receptions (fifth in E&H history) for 1,581 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was named to the All-ODAC Second Team this year and earned third-team laurels as a junior in 2013.

"CoSIDA's Academic All-America program is one of the best ways that we as Sports Information Directors can promote our student-athletes," said Joe Matthews, Emory & Henry's SID. "To be named Academic All-America is an outstanding accomplishment as you must be a top performer both on the field and in the classroom."
