Emory & Henry Football Sees Eight Honored With All-State Awards

ROANOKE/FERRUM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team has seen several of its players named all-state by The Roanoke Times and the Virginia Sports Information Directors. The Wasps completed the 2014 season with an 8-2 record and a 5-2 mark in the ODAC, tying them for first place among four teams.

Six different players were honored by The Roanoke Times. Senior offensive tackle Donovan Sudderth (Murphy, N.C.) and senior safety Roth Healey (Easton, Pa.) were selected to the All-State First Team. Senior offensive tackle Isaac Bowman (Gray, Tenn.) and senior wide receiver Josh Smith (Radford, Va.) earned offensive second-team honors while senior linebacker Paul Forney (Newton, N.C.) and junior linebacker Rennel Marshall (Rustburg, Va.) were tabbed to the second team on defense.

On the VaSID All-State Team, Sudderth and Healey were also recognized as first-teamers while Forney was selected to the second team. The Wasps earned a pair of major honors from VaSID as well. Freshman quarterback Kevin Saxton (Monroe, N.C.) was chosen as the state Offensive Rookie of the Year and Head Coach Curt Newsome shared Coach-of-the-Year honors with Latrell Scott of Virginia State University.
