BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team has seen eight of its players receive all-state honors from the Virginia Sports Information Directors, VaSID officials announced Friday. The teams are voted on by the sports information directors from colleges and universities across the Commonwealth.
This year's eight selections mark the most all-state picks for the Wasps since earning eight spots on the teams following the 2008 season. E&H's seven first-teamers are the most in program history.

Leading the way on the all-state teams is sophomore defensive lineman Jay Swegheimer (Orlando, Fla.), who also earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Also on defense, junior linebacker Ivan Phillips (Kingsport, Tenn.) and junior defensive back Jaylyn Kreimes (Sharps, Va.) earn their second VaSID All-State nods, moving up from the second team from a year ago.
Additionally, junior defensive lineman Donovan Pinnix (Eden, N.C.) was picked to the all-state first team while senior defensive lineman Deondre Chambliss (Chattanooga, Tenn.) grabbed second-team accolades.
On the offensive side of the ball, senior offensive lineman Dakota Morris (Mount Sidney, Va.), junior wide receiver Elijah Rice (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and sophomore running back Grayson Overstreet (Moneta, Va.) grabbed first-team recognition. It was the first time for each of the three players to be named all-state.
In addition to Swegheimer being picked defensive player of the year, Randolph-Macon College's Presley Egbers and Chris Vidal were named offensive player of the year and special teams player of the year, respectively. Yellow Jacket mentor Pedro Arruza was named Coach of the Year after leading R-MC to the ODAC Championship. Ferrum College's Tmahdae Penn and Hampden-Sydney College's Will Pickren garnered offensive and defensive rookie of the year honors, respectively.
VaSID names 44 All-State teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all athletic communications professionals working at a university or conference in the Commonwealth.
