EMORY, Va. – With the arrival of fall camp, Emory & Henry College head football coach Curt Newsome is pleased to announce the completion of the Wasps' coaching staff for the 2021 season.

E&H welcomes two new coaches to the program, sees one coach return to his former post and yet another promoted to full-time. Additionally, the Wasps have hired a new equipment & video coordinator.

"I think the staff changes we made over the summer have been exceptional," said Newsome. "I like the staff room as well as any group since I've been here."

Joining the staff for the first time are Bruce Tall and Davon Morgan. "We are so fortunate to hire someone with the Coach Tall's experience. He's been a coordinator at several places; he's coached the defensive line at Michigan and West Virginia," commented Newsome. "Davon brings a high level of competitiveness and energy to the offense, and we will take advantage of that."

Tall is a veteran in the coaching ranks at both the NCAA Division I and Division III levels. Most recently, he served as a senior defensive consultant at Mississippi State University for the 2019 season. In addition to his stops at West Virginia and Michigan, he has coached at Western Michigan University and served for four years as the defensive coordinator at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Ohio Wesleyan University graduate has also worked on the staffs at OWU, Harvard University, Cornell University, and Northeastern University.

Morgan comes to E&H after serving on the staff at Alderson Broaddus University in West Virginia. He has also coached at the collegiate level at Virginia University of Lynchburg and Virginia State University as well as spending three years at Henrico High School in Richmond. The 2011 graduate of Virginia Tech played professionally with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League and in arena football with the Richmond Raiders, New Orleans VooDoo and Richmond Roughriders.

Josh Wellenhoffer '03 returns to the staff as Associate Head Coach after spending the 2020-21 academic year in another role with the program. The 2021 season will be Wellenhoffer's 17th overall with the program as he will continue to work with the offensive line.

Mitchell Walters '20 moves into a full-time position after serving as a volunteer assistant last year. He will coach the corners in the defensive backfield. Walters was a member of the team from 2016-19, and was a student-assistant on the defensive side of the ball during his senior year.

"Getting Josh back is so special for us up front. He and I are on the same page from a fundamental standpoint. He is a good family man that brings a lot to the table and extremely hard-worker," Newsome added. "Mitchell is very intelligent and really gets along with the players, so he is very well-suited to be a full-time position coach."

Chanse Chafin joins the staff as equipment & video coordinator. Chafin, who graduated from E&H in the spring of 2021, moves into an administrative role with the program after working with the team's equipment and video operations as an undergraduate.

Emory & Henry will open the 2021 season on Saturday, September 4 when it visits North Carolina Wesleyan College at noon. The Wasps' first home game will be against Middle Appalachian-rival Bluefield College on Saturday, September 11. Kickoff for that contest will be at 1:00 p.m.
