Wofford Men’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 70-55, In Exhibition Sunday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College Men's Basketball Team (1-1) picked up victory in their home opener against Emory & Henry College Sunday evening at Benjamin Johnson Arena. The contest served as an exhibition for Emory & Henry.

After Wofford opened the contest going up 7-3 in the first 1:49, Emory & Henry went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 lead on a layup by sophomore Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.).  The Terriers took control of the contest with a 15-0 run that covered 4:15.

Wofford pushed its first half lead to 19 (44-25) with 23 seconds to go before the half, but a three pointer by E&H freshman Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) at the buzzer made the score 44-28 going into the intermission.

The Terriers came out of the locker room and pushed their lead to 23 with 15:08 on a layup by Domas Rinksalis. Emory & Henry then made a 17-6 run to shave the lead to nine at 7:40 left to go in the contest. A dunk by Mullins at the 10:11 mark highlighted the stretch for the Wasps.

Wofford closed the contest out with a 15-4 run to earn the victory.

Emory & Henry was led offensively by junior Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) who had 15 points off the bench to go along with four rebounds and Mullins with 13 points and four boards.

The Terriers placed three players in double figures including Karl Cochran, who had a game-high 19 points in the contest. Lee Skinner and Drew Crowell added 12 and 10 points respectively.

As a team, Emory & Henry held a 36-32 advantage on the glass and had nine offensive rebounds compared to just five for Wofford. The Wasps also led in second chance points, 9-4 over the Terriers.

Emory & Henry will open the regular season on Wednesday evening when it hosts Hiwassee College on Bob Johnson Court. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
