Virginia University of Lynchburg Outlasts Emory & Henry, 72-69, Friday In Averett Classic

UPDATE: Dec. 22, 2011 - On Thursday, December 22, Virginia University of Lynchburg officials informed Emory & Henry College that VUL was forfeiting the game to E&H due to the use of an ineligible player per United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) guidelines. Per NCAA rules, the game will count as a 2-0 victory for Emory & Henry. All statistics will stand as the game was played.

DANVILLE, Va. - The Virginia University of Lynchburg Men's Basketball Team (2-3) survived a furious rally by Emory & Henry College (1-1) to come away with a 72-69 victory Friday night in Averett University's Cougar Classic.

The Dragons led for the majority of the game and had a 62-51 lead with 4:45 left to go in the contest. Emory & Henry went on an 18-8 run to cut the margin to one with just seconds to go on a three-pointer by junior guard Kyle Sensabaugh (Columbus, Ohio), but VUL hit two free throws late to push the advantage to 72-69 for the win.

Sensabaugh led all players with a career-high 21 points as he went seven-for-nine behind the arc for the Wasps and grabbed seven rebounds as well. Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had 12 points off the bench while sophomore forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) chipped in 10 points.

The Dragons placed five players in double figures in scoring and forced Emory & Henry into 25 turnovers on the night en route to the win. Darius Echols had 15 points to lead VUL while Delonte' Doles and Christopher Calvan each scored 12.

Emory & Henry will face host Averett on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
