EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (3-6) rallied from a 17-point deficit in the first half to defeat Greensboro College (4-3) on Wednesday evening at Bob Johnson Court.
Greensboro got out to a 7-2 lead in the first three minutes of the first half, but E&H closed the gap to one (7-6) at the 16:57 mark. The Pride went on a 22-6 run over the next 9:25 for a 29-12 advantage.
Emory & Henry fought to get back into the game, scoring 16 of the next 20 points to cut the lead to five (33-28). Greensboro would take a 43-25 lead into the break.
After intermission, the Wasps came out firing on all cylinders and outscored the Pride 33-8 in the first eight and a half minutes of the second half for their first lead of the contest at 58-51. Freshman guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) hit three treys during the stretch for E&H.
Emory & Henry would extend its lead to 11 with 6:30 to go and wouldn't let Greensboro get any closer than four the rest of the way. A 6-0 run by the Wasps late put the game out of reach as they held on for the 85-79 victory.
Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) paced Emory & Henry with a game-high 21 points on seven-for-11 shooting and added four assists and three rebounds. Freshman guard Damian Edwards (Boone, N.C.)had 15 points on the night including a perfect eight-for-eight from the free throw line while junior guard Kyle Sensabaugh (Columbus, Ohio) and sophomore forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Greensboro was led by Damian Dixon with 19 points and T.J. Holman with 16 points. Also in double figures for the Pride was Andre Porter and Tijani Luqman with 11 points each.
Emory & Henry shot 54.5 percent from the floor for the game, and shot a blistering 61.9 percent (13-for-21) in the first half. The Wasps cleaned up their ball handling after halftime, committing only five turnovers compared to 16 before the break.
E&H will take three weeks off for exams and the Christmas holiday before returning to the court on Friday, December 30 with a home contest against Shenandoah. The Wasps and the Hornets will see whose sting is stronger with tipoff set for 7:00 p.m.
