Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Handles Shenandoah, 72-67, Friday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (5-5) picked up a victory in non-conference action over Shenandoah University (1-9) Friday evening at Bob Johnson Court.

E&H got out to an 8-3 lead just 3:46 into the contest, but a 13-3 run by Shenandoah gave the Hornets an 11-16 advantage. From there, the Wasps took control of the contest, scoring 19 of the next 21 points over a 5:29 span. Emory & Henry would take a 39-29 lead into the locker room.

After the break, the Hornets quickly cut the Wasps' advantage to five, but E&H bounced back to go up 13 at the 7:48 mark (59-46). Shenandoah didn't let up, closing the gap to three (70-67) with just 21 seconds remaining but Emory & Henry held on for the five-point win.

The Wasps placed four players in double figures and were led by junior forward Armando Murrell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with a career-high 16 points and added six rebounds on the day. Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had 15 points while sophomore forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) chipped in 12 points and nine rebounds.

E&H sophomore forward Charles Smith (Fayetteville, N.C.) tallied 11 points and was five-for-six from the charity stripe while junior guard Kyle Sensabaugh (Columbus, Ohio) registered eight points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

Shenandoah was led by Avery Green, as he tallied a game-high 19 points and added five assists and four rebounds. Dominic Chappell and Matthew Thompson had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for the Hornets.

Emory & Henry will remain at home tomorrow afternoon for the third contest in its six-game home stand. The Wasps will host Maryland Bible College at 2:00 p.m.
