Emory & Henry Men’s Basketball Defeats Randolph, 79-73, Saturday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team (7-6, 1-4 ODAC) picked up its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference win of the season Saturday as the Wasps defeated the WildCats of Randolph College (6-7, 2-3 ODAC) by a 79-73 score at the John Rutledge King Center.

Randolph scored the first four points of the game, but that would prove to be the largest lead of the contest for the WildCats as Emory & Henry responded to lead by four points at 14-10 with 13:32 to go before halftime.

The Wasps hit seven of their 11 three-pointers in the first half, as both teams were on fire from the floor. Randolph shot 64.5 percent (17-for-26) while E&H went 17-for-28 (60.7%) in the opening frame.

After coming out of the locker room down 43-40, the WildCats outscored the Wasps 10-6 over the first five minutes of the second half for their final lead of the contest (50-49). Emory & Henry bounced back putting distance between the two squads with a 11-1 spurt covering 4:15 for its largest lead of the game (60-51). 

Randolph would get no closer than three points the rest of the way as E&H held on for its fourth victory in the last five outings.

The Wasps were led by freshman guard Tyler Driver (Alexandria, Va.) with 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Driver connected on four treys in his first-ever game in double digits.

Junior guard Malcolm Green (Marshville, N.C.) had 18 points on seven-for-14 shooting pulled down five boards while junior guard Kyle Sensabaugh (Columbus, Ohio) hit four three-pointers added five rebounds and three assists. Sophomore forward Tyler Mullins (Hazard, Ky.) had 11 points and six rebounds as well for the Emory & Henry.

Randolph's Zach Desgain led all scorers with 22 points on nine-for-11 from the field while Colton Hunt posted 19 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Shiflett and Mike Ehilegbu posted 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Emory & Henry will take the court next Saturday when the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College visit Bob Johnson Court. Tipoff for the ODAC contest is set for 2:00 p.m.
